Hollywood Execs Talk “Transformative” Nature Of AI & The Chances Of An AI Movie Star: “It’s Coming” — Zurich Summit
At the Zurich Summit, Hollywood executives discussed the transformative impact of artificial intelligence on the film industry and hinted at the future possibility of AI-powered movie stars. Executives emphasized the rapid development of AI tools, particularly for tasks like storyboarding and production, which are already helping to streamline processes and reduce costs. For example, AI is being used in independent films to save on reshoots, leading to significant budget savings. However, concerns around consent and intellectual property rights were raised, especially regarding the use of actors' voices and likenesses in AI-generated performances.
WME partner David Jacquemin compared the current state of AI in film to the early days of mobile app development, where many applications felt experimental. He noted that while AI in entertainment is still evolving, it's only a matter of time before fully AI-generated characters, akin to human actors, begin to dominate screens. The executives agreed that the emergence of an AI "movie star" is inevitable, predicting that digital characters could one day achieve celebrity status, just as video game characters have done in the past.
